We are just one day away from tip-off, and it feels like it will never come. Once it happens though, the pace will be frenetic...at least until the final game on Sunday evening. Then the waiting game begins once again. Come to think of it, can you think of any other instances in life where you have 4 straight days of pure sports ecstasy followed by the 3 longest, most excruciatingly painful days of the year? And that is if your team is still in it! Anyways, away we go... Want more conspiracy theories in regards to the seemingly easy East and South brackets? Of course you do. [Deadspin] Want a statistical analysis to temporarily quell your anxiety as it relates to KU cutting down the nets this year? My pleasure. [BasketballProspectus] Do you enjoy watching fast-paced, exciting, above-the-rim 'hoops, or are you a Big 10 fan? Rock Chalk Talk breaks down which regions and teams to target either way. [RockChalkTalk] Jessee Newell and Matt Tait's video breakdown of all the regions. Somewhere, Tom Keegan is lying on the floor with a knife in his back. [KUSports.com] Is it just me or are all of Jeff Goodman's KU articles just back-handed compliments? In this week's diddy he explains how Bill Self and Kansas essentially lucked into recruiting every single starting player except Cole Aldrich. I always love when I post his articles and I get to type FOX SPORTS while I chuckle to myself. [Goodman/FoxSports] I am not saying I am worried about losing to UNI in the second round, but I am finding more and more articles and whispers of this potential pitfall. [Reid/STLGlobeDemocrat] *** Reminder, join my bracket challenge for a chance to be featured as the smartest person in the world on my site. OK all, it is everyone's favorite time of the year so the amount of links is going to be overwhelming. I hope this satisfies all your time-wasting needs in what is the most unproductive American work week of the year... Rush The Court's Midwest bracket preview. [RushTheCourt] The New York Times ponders what the Jayhawks did to draw the ire of the selection committee, surprisingly not citing a conservative conspiracy. [NYTimes] Speaking of conspiracies, Jason Whitlock floats one out there. While I am the first to hate on Duke, I wonder if ratings for the most popular tournament in sports are really a big enough concern of CBS to put in the fix? [Whitlock/KCStar] A historical analysis of recent Final Four team's based on KenPom's offensive and defensive efficiency ratings. Hint: This bodes well for KU. [Hip2DaGame] I am sorry, but anyone who picks Kentucky to win it all is just being foolish. John Wall is the most overrated "great" NCAA player I have ever watched. I said it. [Parish/CBSSports] CBS breaks down all of the first-round matchups. Spoiler alert: They give the edge to Kansas over Lehigh. [CBSSports] More regional analysis from Mike DeCourcy. I respect Mike more than most NCAA writers, but to leave Aldrich off his All-Region team is a gross oversight. [DeCourcy/SportingNews] Great story on Bill Self from this week's Sports Illustrated, and writer Joe Posnanski enjoyed it so much he expanded it for SI.com. [Posnanski/SI.com] SI.com's Andy Glockner also loves the 'Hawks to come out of the Midwest. [Glockner/SI.com] Andy Katz's 16 points on the Midwest bracket. [Katz/ESPN] Want some video and audio from ESPN via The Shiver? Sure you do... Last week I was asking why Bill Self has yet to be previewed on Andy Katz's Coaches Corner...clearly he is a reader. Bill Self joins Colin Cowherd on 'The Herd.' Coach Self on ESPN's Mike and Mike. By the way, when are Mike Golic and Jeff Garlin going to get together and do something funny? Various ESPN analyst's look at the Midwest bracket. [ESPNPreview]

Up and coming comedy legend Jason Sudeikis sporting a "I {Jayhawk Logo} New York" tee after SNL this week. Jason is a huge KU basketball fan and can be spotted at the KU watch sites in NYC most games. Also want to give a shoutout to a great alumni director also here in NYC, Doug Glass, who makes and distributes these t-shirts during the games. So if you are in New York and have not been to The Village Pourhouse or The Back Page yet come on down! All-Big XII teams announced. I am a little surprised Xavier Henry was beat out for freshman of the year by Alec Burks, and how Damion James was a unanimous selection while Cole Aldrich was not is crazy, but whatever. [BigXIISports] An interesting scouting report on Tyshawn Taylor. Two month ago I would have made some snarky comment, but Taylor's play of late has shut me up. [DraftExpress] Much is made of coaching trees in the NFL, but is anything cooler than the fact that Mark Turgeon played for Larry Brown who played for Dean Smith who played for Phog Allen? Good read on the roots of basketball development and coaching in the midwest. [Kerkhoff/KCStar] The Samantha Ryan/Kurtis Townsend "ticket-gate" takes to the internet as Samantha defends herself on twitter, says "I owe ya one!" to Townsend. I wonder what goods or services she can provide for the coach... [BustedCoverage]

Was anyone else confused by the fact that Brady Morningstar is also KU's all-time winningest player, but not really? What system was used to calculate what counts as a win and what does not? Thankfully, Upon Further Review has debunked the vicious lies that Lew Perkins has spoonfed us all. [UponFurtherReview] The Big XII Tournament seedings, dates, and times have been announced. Check back later in the week for my breakdown of this very, very important event. [KCStar] Bill Self's Missouri post-game conference. [KUSports] KU most likely locked up the #1 overall seed in the NCAA tournament on Saturday, but how much does it matter? [Corcoran/CJOnline] Andy Katz's "Coaching Spotlight" on Roy Williams. I threw this on here mostly because I love to see all the KU fans come out of the woodwork on the comments section, but I also had myself a laugh listening to Roy talk about his "motivational methods and coaching style on the hard court." Not surprisingly, Bill Self has yet to be featured by Katz. [AndyKatz/ESPN]

Did Coach Townsend learn nothing from Tiger Woods? [Whitlock/KCStar] Upon Further Review takes a more in depth look at Xavier, 'Kieff and Taylor, as well as an honest assessment of Sherron Collins. [UponFurtherReview] Chris Knapp from The Shiver provides a history lesson surrounding Quantrill's Raid of Lawrence in 1863. Knapp uses a first-hand account to show Quantrill as a "rebel and a terrorist" in hopes to show Missourians that he is not the positive, heroic figure they sometimes paint him as. Unfortunately for Knapp, most Missourians can't read. [Knapp/TheShiver] Wait wait Bill Mayer, don't bet against Kansas?!? You could have told me this three months ago before I lost the shirt off my back. [Mayer/KUSports] One last look at some statistics from the KU v. K-State game. [RockChalkTalk]

The imposter 'Morning Bru', cleverly spelled 'Morning Brew' to throw my lawyers off the scent, wets my beak this morning for the impending Senior Night on March 3rd. Or, as I am calling it, the greatest game ever played not showed on national television (get with it ESPN!). [MorningBrew/UDK] Poor Roy Williams. It is bad enough that Kansas fans knew he was a mediocre recruiter, terrible coach, and overall fraudulent character, but now the entire nation is being made aware of these facts. I think there might be a coaching vacancy at Seton Hall in the near future, Roy... [BleacherReport] Mike DeCourcy offers up his most overrated and most underrated NBA recruits, both of which are current Jayhawks. I agree on both counts. [DeCourcy/SportingNews]

Wait, did the Kansas Jayhawks clinch something last night? [SI.com] Tyshawn Taylor's resurgence has caught the eye of The Sporting News' Mike DeCourcy. [DeCourcy/TSN] Upon Further Review looks at another 'Hawks 'X'emplary play of late, KU's historic 6th straight conference title, Cole's academic award, and the race between Kansas and North Carolina in what might be the final blow to Roy Williams' fragile ego. [UponFurtherReview] North Carolina media has some quotes from Roy as well. Man I am glad he is gone. [CharlottleObserver] Why write an article about Kansas being "quiet favorites to win the national title," yet mention that Kentucky has overshadowed them all season...really Matt Jones, really? [MattJones/CBSSports] Just one of many, many Sherron Collins articles to flood the internet over the remainder of the season. [KevinHasking/CJOnline] CBS Sports blogger Drew Franklin has been traveling around the country touring arenas, and you guessed it, he was in Allen Fieldhouse last night. [DrewFranklin/CBSSports] Rush The Court's After the Buzzer asks, "Is Kansas a great team?" [RushTheCourt]

GoCyclones.com presents 5 things that need to happen for Iowa State to come away with a win on Saturday in the Fieldhouse. It is never a good sign when one is "a little luck." Luck? Seriously? You might as well say Air Bud coming out of retirement is going to give you the edge. [GoCyclones] KU calls an end to adversity in 2010. [McCollough/KUSports] Could Elijah Johnson play a major role come March for the Jayhawks? [McCollough/KUSports] The headline of the article is, "Jayhawks Deserving of No. 1 Rank," but the first line reads, "The Kansas Jayhawks have finally earned their way to the top." Yep, just another Jeff Goodman article. [FoxSports]
I will be wearing this tee when KU plays Oklahoma, as will all of the other cool kids in your town. [HomageClothing]

Meet Royce Woolridge, KU's lone recruit thus far for next season. Despite being only a 3-star recruit (mostly for his 6'3" height), Wooldridge has been highly regarded by Bill Self for a few years, and is having a stellar senior season. [iSportsWeb] The Morris twins are some odd dudes, which probably makes Lawrence the ideal place for them to attend college. I hope Markieff is not a mathematics major, because if he thinks he was a 90% free throw shooter in high school... [McCollough/KCStar] A great statistical look at KU's defensive prowess as it relates to the pace of the game by Jesse Newell. This goes a long way in explaining the Colorado game, and might be a major factor in March. [Newell/KUSports] Support Sherron Collins for his well-deserved chance to win the Bob Cousy award for best PG in all the land. [CousyAward] SITE NEWS: I have finally completely updated the jayhawker's Big 12 Power Rankings, and will continue to update it as often as possible as we ramp up conference play. Keep in mind, there is little rhyme or reason to these rankings besides my opinion based on seeing the team's play. If you want actual facts, numbers, and general intelligence you should turn to Phog Blog's REAL standings.

The UDK presents a personality assessment based on what you think of Tyshawn Taylor. I suppose this makes me the 'Janice' in the story, but unfortunately the author forgot to mention that Janice, despite being "a bit high strung" is also the more realistic fan. [Dwyer/UDK] The Sporting News Blog examines when it is appropriate to taunt a team that is beating you, ala the 'overrated' chants heard in Colorado on Wednesday night. I say if you live in Boulder and actually follow their basketball (or any sports program at this point), no one is going to pay attention to you anyways so taunt away, hippies. [TheSportingBlog] KU is so good that even losing to them moves you up in SI's Power Rankings. Also, apparently Syracuse is now the team that everyone is going to say is better than Kansas. Hmm, Texas..Kentucky..now it is Syracuses' turn I guess. [Winn/SI.com]
